About Keep Cup
It started in a Melbourne cafe with a simple idea: put it away and use it again. When brothers Abigail and Jamie Forsyth started a coffee business in Melbourne in 1998, disposable cups were entering the public landscape; the meaning of a busy professional life and a vibrant independent coffee scene.
As the business grew, so did its concern about the volume of packaging consumed, particularly disposable cups; lined with polyethylene, which were not recyclable.
In 2007, following the success of the trial of a reusable soup cup, and the inadequacy of existing thermos and cups for refilling in a coffee setting, they decided to design and manufacture their own: a standard barista reusable cup so that people can enjoy better coffee on the go.
They risked that usability, low-impact manufacturing, and design aesthetics could drive behavior change and make a difference in how people think about the culture of convenience.
#ZeroWaste movement.
Single-use plastics accelerate climate change and jeopardize progress towards the Paris climate agreement. In 2015, the latest published count, 148 million tons of single-use packaging were produced in the world, less than 9% were recycled and up to 12% were burned, exacerbating the impact of emissions.
